Kantha Silk Scarf Orange Paisley
Why we love
In sanskrit, the word Kantha means Rags. For centuries, bengali women have taken their discarded cloth and sewn them together with a simple running stitch to create something new.
Made by artisans of a social enterprise in India, the stunning Kantha scarves are handmade from up-cycled vintage saris in a mix of ikat weaves and floral, tribal and abstract prints. Each piece is unique and you will never see the same combination of fabrics and threads twice. The kantha used is of the highest quality, stitched by women whose families have been sewing kantha for generations in West Bengal, India.
The production processes do not involve any child labour and all the handwork is provided through a women's cooperative in West Bengal state, ensuring disadvantaged women have dignified, sustainable and fairly paid employment.
