Coal Afghan Silk Scarf
Why we love
The crisp and light Afghan silk scarves are made by Rabia Maryam Handicrafts Company, based in Mazar-e-Sharif in the north of Afghanistan. Rabia works with around 3,000 women to grow silk worms and then process and hand weave the silk into crisp, bright scarves.
The production and sale of these products provides many women with their sole source of income. A family of four working in silk production for six weeks can reportedly earn enough money to buy food for a year.
